Community Beautification Grant Calendar

The central activity of Sullivan Renaissance is a two-phase community grant program that runs from March through August in Sullivan County, NY. This year's community program dates are as follows:

  • Grant Applications available online February 1, 2010
  • Program launched at Winter Conference on Saturday, February 20, 2010
  • Applications due on Wednesday, March 24, 2010
  • Grants will be awarded Thursday, April  15, 2010
  • Projects must be completed by Monday, August 2, 2010
  • Second round grants announced on Monday, August 9, 2010

Beautification & Community Development Grants A

Category A includes the following types of single-element projects: welcome sign, small garden, sign replacement

Category A Criteria

Category A includes the following types of single-element projects:

  • New welcome signs or sign replacement projects
  • Small public gardens or community parks
  • Street-wide beautification such as planters, banners and/or trash receptacles

Typically these are new projects at a single location.  This category is a good place for new groups to begin, as well as for simple projects in small communities.

Category B

Category B Criteria

Category B includes the following types of multi-element projects:

  • Large public gardens or community park projects
  • Exterior renovations or facade projects
  • Roadside or community-wide beautification efforts at multiple locations
Typically these projects include multiple sites or themes, and groups that engage in these projects are generally more experienced and self-directed.

(1) The Gardening Internship Program is a collaboration with the Center for Workforce Development.  Interns are paid up to $1,250 for 100 hours of work and 25 hours of leadership training. A separate application is required.
(2)Only projects participating in the judging process are eligible to receive the awards.

Category C

Category C Criteria

Category C are multi-year projects funded over a 3-year period focused on community development and downtown revitalization.  A limited number of projects are funded each year on a competitive basis.

  • Tangible beautification efforts at multiple locations as part of a 3-year plan
  • Addresses issues and problems beyond beautification (i.e. economic development, social or environmental issues, etc.)
  • Commitment to long-range planning and enhanced code enforcement
  • Focus on capacity building and establishing a formal organizational structure
  • A concept design and/or rendering
  • Tangible collaboration with other community-based groups and organizations
