The Sullivan Renaissance Multicultural Program will host a youth basketball clinic in Dillon Park in Monticello, NY, on Saturday October 21, 2017 from noon to 4 p.m. (Rain date: October 22). A joint initiative of the African-American Outreach Committee and the Bilingual Advisory Committee, the event is open to all Sullivan County youth in grades 4 through 7.
The basketball clinic will be comprised of two age groups. Grades 4 & 5 will participate from 12pm to 2pm, and Grades 6 & 7 from 2pm to 4pm. Youth from all school districts are encouraged to participate, and hone their basketball skills under the tutelage of Coach Dennis Martin and Klu Padu. Pre-registration is required, and space is limited.
“Sullivan Renaissance has been instrumental in identifying the importance of youth participation and healthy activities as a source of pride for the young members of our county,” said Allen Weir, Chair of the Latino Alliance of Sullivan County, and a member of the Bilingual Advisory Committee. “This event is the first youth activity coordinated by the joint efforts of the two multicultural committees, and we look forward to hosting other youth-oriented events in the coming months.”
The Village of Monticello’s Dillon Park is located at 150 Dillon Road, and contains a basketball court, tranquil pond, wooden bridge and deck, and many scenic spots for picnicking and enjoying nature. Spectators are welcomed to attend and support the children’s efforts.
To register your child, and for additional information, please contact Ari Mir-Pontier, Multicultural Program Manager, at 845-295-2445. Sullivan Renaissance is a beautification and community development program principally funded by the Gerry Foundation.
